Decode Your Mood

Ask yourself these key questions to figure out what’s wrong.

  • What’s really bugging me?
  • Am I avoiding something?
  • Could it be more than one thing?

Calm Down

Start by taking a few deep breaths to get your emotions under control. Then choose one or more of the following techniques to help clear your mind.

  • Focus on breathing.
  • Make a pie chart. Draw a circle and create slices of a pie chart to represent all the things that are upsetting you, suggests Kase.
  • Find a quiet place.
  • Distract yourself.
  • Get some exercise.
  • Blow off steam.

Create a Strategy

  • Talk to a problem-solver.
  • Make a list. It should include things that will make you feel better.
  • Visualize your ideal.

10 Tips for Becoming a Morning Person

From Realsimple.com

Slash an Hour From Your Day

If you want to wake up earlier, trim down those evening obligations, says Dr. Marks.

Pile On the Protein

You know the saying: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

Reward Yourself

Yes! You did it! You didn’t hit the snooze button! “Once up, take advantage of the extra time you’ve given yourself to build in a few minutes of a ‘reward’,” says psychologist Patricia Adson, author of A Princess and Her Garden.

Give Yourself a Pep Talk

“Remember, you don’t have to want to get up, you just have to do it,” says Adson.

Exercise When the Sun Comes Up

We're wired (via circadian rhythms/our internal 24-hour clock) to have peak alertness around mid-morning, says Dr. Marks. “Early morning exercise can help boost the morning energy surge, as you will have elevated body temperature and elevated adrenalin levels for several hours after you exercise.”

Style Strands Before Bedtime

To cut down (um, erase) morning drying time, Ashley Stone of Beauty Entourage, a traveling salon, suggests washing hair the night before and putting it into a loose braid.

...Or, Braid Hair in the Morning

A tell-tale sign that you are not a morning person? Your hair. But whether you’re already an early riser or you’re still working on it, a braid can disguise all levels of mane-mess—from a little frizz to a bonafide bedhead, says Morgan Willhite, creative director at Ouidad Salon in New York City.

Revamp Your Makeup Routine

Keep your face polished and fresh.

Invite Light Indoors

“Bright light from a light box that is designed to emit light similar to sunlight is probably the most powerful thing you can do to force your body awake in the mornings,” says Dr. Marks.

Turn Everything Off

Keep the radio and television volumes low in the evenings in order to create an atmosphere that lulls you into sleepy mode, suggests Dr. Marks.

Style update: 7 Things You Can Do With This Gorgeous Scarf

Here goes…
1. Update your everyday bag by folding up the scarf a few times then tying it on the handle or strap (just like we show in the video).
2. Wear it as a head wrap or turban. See: Kourtney Kardashian for inspiration.
3. Use the scarf as a beach coverup. Wear it as a skirt by wrapping it around you and tying it at the waist. Or wrap it around your torso as you would a towel, but take the two ends, cross them over each other at your décolletage and tie them behind your neck. This creates a halter-like dress.
4. Fold it in half length-wise and lie it down your dining room table as a table runner. This works both over a solid, contrasting tablecloth or on a bare wood or glass table. Add gold accents (think: napkin rings, chargers, vases) to the table to play off the gold specks in the scarf.
5. Drape the scarf over the back of the sofa as if it were a throw. This is a cheap and easy way to update the color scheme of the living room without having to drop hundreds on a new couch.
6. Speaking of updating your couch, buy two of the scarves and follow these instructions for no-sew pillow covers to disguise boring old pillows and create brand-new, chic ones.
7. Wrap a present in the scarf. The recipient gets two items in one and you get the reputation of being a stellar gift-giver.
